Man threatens to kill clerk during robbery

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A man is on the run after threatening to kill a drug store clerk and stealing cash Wednesday morning, according to Colorado Springs Police officers.

Officers said a man walked into the Safeway store in the 1100 block of North Circle Drive around 11:28 a.m., walked up to the customer service desk and pulled out a gun. Officers said the clerk told them the suspect threatened to shoot her if she did not give him money.

The clerk gave the can an undisclosed amount of cash, which he took and fled the store.

Witness said they saw him running southbound through the shopping center and into a neighborhood south of Galley Road.

Officers said the suspect is an African-American man who is about 30 years old. He is 6'3" and weighs between 210 and 220 pounds. He wore jeans, a black jacket and a grey hooded sweatshirt.
