Young woman dead after two-vehicle crash

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- One woman is dead and three children are injured following a two-vehicle crash in southeast Colorado Springs.

The crash happened around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Marksheffel Road and Fontaine Boulevard.

Colorado State Patrol said a woman in her 20's driving a Honda ran a stop sign as she was traveling west on Fontaine. Authorities said that's when a Mountain View Electric truck traveling northbound on Marksheffel hit the Honda on the driver's side.

State troopers said the female driver died at the scene. Three small children were in the vehicle with her. Authorities said a boy, about 6 years old, was taken to a local hospital by Flight for Life. The two other children were taken to the hospital by ambulence. The male driver of the truck was not injured.

Authorities said both drivers were wearing seat belts, and the children were in child constraints.

The crash is under investigation.

An El Paso County Sheriff's deputy at the scene said this is the second fatal crash at that intersection in fewer than a year.
