COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The Boys & Girls Club of the Pikes Peak Region is asking the community to help bring joy to families this holiday season.
In its 123-year history, the Boys & Girls Club in Colorado Springs has served thousands of children in the area every year, providing them a safe and healthy place to grow.
However, many of the members come from underpriveleged families.
"About 85 percent of our families qualify for free or reduced lunch," Lauren Weaver, vice president of the local Boys & Girls Club, said. "That's a staggering number, it's really sad. I think right now our families really need support from the community."
During the holidays, the local club wants to make sure every child has soemthing special to unwrap.
"All children should have a happy Christmas, should have a happy holiday season," Weaver said. "There should be now kids out there without a gift under the tree."
The Boys & Girls Club is partnering with King Soopers to collect gently used or new toys, gift cards and other donations to give to families in need.
Donations can be dropped off at any of the King Soopers stores in the Pikes Peak Region. Gifts will be collected through Dec. 25.
