COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- It's a groundbreaking ceremony for a groundbreaking new project.

A ceremony has been planned for Thursday morning to break ground on the Cheyenne Mountain Shooting Complex, a partnership between El Paso County, Fort Carson, and the non-profit Soldier's Friend Foundation.

Last month the El Paso County Commissioners voted unanimously to approve a resolution to build the complex just south of Colorado Springs.

While the idea for the range has been kicked around for almost two years, it only recently won the required approval from the Secretary of the Army, allowing the plan to move on to the commissioners.

The six-range facility will be open to the public seven days a week with one range being reserved for training for the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
