COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- It's that time of year where wishes come true, and that's exactly what is happening for one local teen thanks to the Black Bear Diner and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Chris Holmes has battled Hodgkin's Lymphoma not once but twice.
Now the Make A Wish Foundation is granting the 18-year-old's wish to have work done on his 2002 Jeep Wrangler.
Tuesday night Chris and his family dined at Black Bear Diner, which has partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
"This is our community, my wife and I live here. We're lucky enough to be blessed with the opportunity to business here, and it's our responsibility to give back," Lucas Farnham, Franchise Owner, said.
Staff members surprised Holmes with Jeep gear, Jeep clothing and an off-roading trail book.
Holmes, an outdoor enthusiast, said he loves going off-roading and getting away from it all.
He said the Make-A-Wish Foundation gives hopes to those who are sick during a time when it's hard to see the positives.
"When you're going through cancer and that, you're always like 'this sucks.' I mean you can't look at that way because you have to have a positive mindset, but Make-A-Wish really gives you something to look for," Holmes said.
Doctors have declared Holmes to be in remission for a second time, and he said the outlook is good.
He said battling cancer has changed his outlook on life.
"It makes me look at life a little bit differently. I look at things more positively, and little things that people get upset about it kind of frustrates me, like 'it's not that big of a deal, you'll get over it,'" Holmes said.
The final reveal date of Holmes' completed jeep has not yet been announced.
Donations to Make-A-Wish can be made at Black Bear Diner and $1 from every baked dessert purchase will go to the foundation through December.
"I don't think there are any calories in it when you're donated to Make-A-Wish," Farnham joked.
