BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. -- Bakersfield authorities said 27-year-old Black Forest resident Shawn McCormack was arrested for a sexual exploitation of a child charge after he allegedly videotaped himself having sex with a baby in 2009, then distributed the video online.

According to an arrest warrant out of Bakersfield, Calif., detectives began investigating McCormack after discovering a series of child pornography items after arresting a child porn distributor in Boston in November.

Detectives came across a video of a man sexually assaulting what appeared to be an 11-month-old boy in a Bakersfield hotel room.  The man, who detectives later learned was McCormack, did not show his face in the three minute, 15 second video but repeatedly sexually abused the naked boy. According to court documents, the man taped the baby's hands to his legs and taped his mouth shut, and the baby was crying throughout the video.

Authorities also found two photos of the same baby, who was actually 18-months-old at the time, being sexually assaulted by the man in separate scenes.

Between August and September, detectives used the program and commercials being played on the TV in the background of the hotel room video to determine the date of the assault - March 28, 2009. They also traced the furniture in the video to furniture that a Bakersfield Best Inn had purchased and traced a curtain pattern to a pattern that matched room 221. Detectives found Shawn McCormack had been staying in that room March 28.

Officers believe McCormack was staying with a family friend in Bakersfield at that time and took their baby to the motel just after midnight without the family's knowledge. According to the documents, McCormack worked for a telecommunications company based in California and visited the family every six months, with an occasional overnight stay. The family found their son and McCormack missing Nov. 6, 2009 when they went to check on him around 1:30 a.m.

McCormack brought the baby back in only a diaper and was arrested for child endangerment.

Colorado Springs Police officers investigated McCormack June 5, 2010 after an undercover police officer received a friend request and messages from a GigaTribe user with the alias "toddlers." Messages included:

"I have private...my friends son I take at nights."

"When I visit I take him out late in the night to a hotel."

Detectives traced the user to a computer IP address with McCormack registered as the Internet subscriber.

Three days later, officers searched McCormack's house in the 14000 block of Vessey Circle in Black Forest and found 4,000 photos and 365 videos of child pornography. Of the pictures and videos, 394 photos and 26 videos were identified as known child victims.

McCormack also had a folder on his computer called "my kids" which had photos and videos of the baby he abused in the Bakersfield hotel. The baby will be 4 years old this month.

McCormack was arrested July 7. He was released from Colorado state custody Thursday and will be moved to Fresno, Calif. to face a judge.

He faces just one count of sexual exploitation of a child so far.
