COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police officers have arrested a man they believe is responsible for the seventeenth bank robbery in the city in 2011.

According to officers, 54-year-old Rodney Maines of Colorado Springs tried to rob the Academy Bank inside the Walmart in the 700 block of 8th Street around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The caller said the bank teller told her she was being robbed. Maines told the teller he had a gun, but no gun was ever seen.

Officers searched nearby trails and finally found Maines on the trail south of the Cimarron Street and I-25 interchange.

Maines has been charged with aggravated robbery.

Colorado Springs saw a flurry of bank robberies in the first half of the year, but this is the first one since June 28.
