PUEBLO, COLO. -- A Pueblo woman who admitted to killing her husband and burying his body in a shallow grave in 2009 will spend 20 years behind bars.
Twenty-six-year-old Sonia Mitchell was sentenced Friday.
She told the court during the hearing that she endured years of physical and emotional abuse by her husband, 26-year-old Brian Swartz.
She also said on the day she killed her husband, he sexually assaulted her.
After Swartz's death, Mitchell told police her husband had been kidnapped by Mexican nationals, which was just one of the reasons the judge said he doubted her story.
