COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The man who Colorado Springs Police officers shot Wednesday night remains in critical condition at an area hospital and will face charges when he is finally released.

The man, 21-year-old Colorado Springs resident Robert Cole, was shot at by three officers and was hit twice.

Officers were called to a domestic dispute at the Camelot Apartments in the 400 block of South Murray Boulevard around 8:28 p.m. Wednesday. The caller said Cole was fighting with his girlfriend and had threatened to kill her.

When officers arrived they found Cole in the parking lot. He ran to an apartment and pointed a handgun at police.  Five officers were involved, and three of them fired at Cole when he pointed the gun.

Police recovered the gun from the scene.

The officers remain on paid administrative leave, which is standard department policy in officer-involved shootings.
