COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Neighbors who live near the Camelot Apartments at Murray Boulevard and Airport Road in Colorado Springs are speaking out about the officer-involved shooting Wednesday night.
"I was really scared, I grabbed the dog and ducked and ran for the bedroom," Castle Hewitt said.
Hewitt and her fiancé Billy Holder live next door to the apartment where the gunshots went off Wednesday night.
Hewitt is 27 weeks pregnant and said the first thought that went through her mind was the safety of her baby.
"It was like check myself and make sure I did not get hit, so yeah it was really scary," Hewitt said.
Billy Holder was also in their apartment at the time of the shooting.
He said one of the bullets came through the wall, and passed by his face.
"It came three to four feet away, so it was pretty scary, I am not going to lie," Holder said.
Other neighbors who heard the gunshots said they are not surprised by what happened.
One woman who did not want to be identified said trouble is a regular in the area.
"If there is going to be a shooting it is almost always here, it is occasionally a block down or something, but it is usually over here for whatever reason," the woman said.
She said she has called the police at least a dozen times so far this year alone, and added she is sick and tired of the crime and wants change.
"A lot of us are raising children over here, and this is just ridiculous."
