PUEBLO, COLO. -- Pueblo Police officers and officials with Pueblo Crime Stoppers are looking for one or more suspects after a sculpture was recently. destroyed downtown.
The sculpture, located at the intersection of 3rd Street and Santa Fe Drive downtown, was near the Pueblo Chamber of Commerce office and the Sangre de Cristo Art Center Children's Museum.
According to Tom Bruss, President of the Pueblo Downtown Association, it costs the city thousands of dollars to cover the loss when a sculpture is damaged or destroyed and valued this particular piece at $5,000.
The Association has provided benches, planters, bicycle racks and other amenities, including pedestals for displaying the work of Colorado and New Mexico sculptors on the streets of downtown. These artists loan their sculptures to the Association for the enjoyment of visitors and citizens of Pueblo. The pieces are not the property of either the Association or the city.
"We need to continue to keep Pueblo a delightful place to live and visit," Bruss said in a statement. "This is an inexcusable act, and someone has to have information on the individual or individuals responsible for this damage."
Bruss did not say exactly what the sculpture was or who made it.
Pueblo Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of the person or people responsible for the damage. They are asking anyone with information to contact them. You can do so anonymously as well if you don't wish to use your name.
