COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police officers have arrested a man in connection with a double stabbing early Monday morning that left a man dead and put another in the hospital.
"I heard a disturbance and looked out my kitchen window and I saw a gentleman laying on the ground with a woman on top of him screaming," a witness said.
Officers arrested 32-year-old Colorado Springs resident Jamie Armando Montez-Hernandez and charged him with first degree murder and attempted first degree murder.
According to police, Hernandez allegedly stabbed a 32-year-old man to death and stabbed a 31-year-old man in the 1100 block of Mazatlan Circle. The 31-year-old was taken to a hospital and is recovering.
The 31-year-old's injuries are not life-threatening.
"I don't think he knew he was injured 'cause he was just kind of standing there for awhile, and then he just fell out and that's when the police came," the witness said.
The El Paso County Coroner's Office will complete an autopsy in the near future. If the death is ruled a homicide, it will be the thirteenth in the city this year. There were 12 at this time last year.
