WALSENBURG, COLO. -- At least two Huerfano County Sheriff's deputies are on administrative leave after shooting a suspect who tried fleeing in a van.

County officials said a juvenile driving a van fleed deputies in Alamosa and entered Huerfano County on Highway 160. The driver then ran into a deputy car near East 5th Street and Main Street in Walsenburg, ending the chase.

While the driver was being detained, deputies fired shots. The driver was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

CBI officials assisted depu ties and the Colorado State Patrol with processing the crime scene.

Deputies did not release the age or gender of the driver, only that he or she is no older than 17. They also didn't say why deputies fired shots or why the driver was being chased to begin with.

The investigation is ongoing, and the deputies involved have been put on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which is office policy.
