PUEBLO WEST, COLO. -- Pueblo County Sheriff's deputies said someone found a body in a field in Pueblo West Wednesday afternoon, and they are calling the death 'suspicious.'
Deputies said a nearby neighbor spotted what she thought was a body along East Platteville Boulevard around 2:40 p.m. Deputies confirmed it was the body of a female and the sheriff's office is conducting a suspicious death investigation and treating it as a homicide.
"We treat every investigation as a homicide until the evidence leads us to believe something different," Deputy Laurie Kilpatrick with the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies said the female had no signs of obvious trauma.
"The body was not covered up," Kilpatrick said.
East Platteville is closed at Winona Drive and Limon Drive while investigators search the area for evidence.
"We have our investigators diligently going through the area to find any evidence of this crime, if there is a crime," Kilpatrick said.
But a lot of answers will come from the Pueblo County Coroner.
"We're waiting for an autopsy from the coroner's office to determine the cause of death, manner of death, and possibly how much time she's been out here," Kilpatrick said.
If it is determined to be a homicide it would be the second one for Pueblo County this year.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers at 719-542-STOP.
