COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- One Colorado Springs woman is without a home after an early morning fire Sunday.

After receiving multiple calls of smoke coming from a home in a Cimarron Hills neighborhood, firefighters responded to the 1100 block of Kachina Drive just after 4 a.m. to find the home engulfed in flames.

"When we arrived on scene it was already about 50 to 75 percent involved," Cimarron Hills firefighter David Geiger said.

The woman was not home at the time of the fire, but residents nearby said the fire spread throughout the house in seconds. One neighbor said the fire was so hot it caused the temperature inside his home to quickly rise to 85 degrees.

Some nearby homes suffered heat damage due to the high flames. Crews extinguished the fire by mid-morning, but remained on scene throughout the day to put out hot spots.

"We had a really good knock down, about 10 to 15 minutes," Geiger said. "It took a little bit longer with utilities coming out and shutting off the gas out on the street because of the collapse hazard on the meter."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
