FORT CARSON, COLO. (AP) -- The killing of Osama bin Laden isn't expected to impact the work of Fort Carson soldiers serving in Afghanistan and Iraq in the near term.

The Gazette reports that the insurgent leaders the soldiers face in Afghanistan have thin ties to bin Laden. In Iraq, the top leaders of al-Qaida have been killed but factional wars between Sunni and Shiite Muslims present a big concern.

Former Fort Carson Sgt. Andrew Gordon told the newspaper that he's glad bin Laden is dead but he doesn't think it will "calm things down over there."

Sixty-three Fort Carson soldiers have died in Afghanistan following the Sept. 11 attacks. Another 257 soldiers from the post have lost their lives in Iraq.
