COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police officers said they arrested a possible suspect in a carjacking that occurred Wednesday night.
Authorities are also questioning two other men.
Officers responded to a call at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in the 2800 block of S. Circle Drive for a report of a carjacking with a shot fired.
Authorities said a suspect approached a victim and the victim's friend.
The suspect then pointed a gun at them and told them to leave the keys in the car they had been driving.
The victims complied.
Police said the suspect fired a shot into the air before leaving in the victim's vehicle and heading north on Janitell.
The stolen vehicle, possible suspect and two other men were spotted by police near Fountain Boulevard and Academy Boulevard around 5 a.m. Thursday morning.
Police said the suspect made contact with a K-9 officer and was taken to the hospital for an injury. He has been identified as 34-year-old Vernon McKinnie.
Officers said McKinnie is also responsible for three robberies Wednesday. McKinnie allegedly robbed the Loaf N Jug in the 3700 block of Drennan Road, a Circle K in the 6500 block of South Academy Boulevard and the Dunkin Donuts in the 800 block of West Colorado Avenue.
Robbery Unit detectives are still investigating.
