AURORA, COLO. (AP) -- A man is dead in Aurora after being shot by police investigating a suspected car theft.

Officers were called to an area that has many auto shops late Monday and confronted three men in a back lot there. Police say the three got into a truck and then shots were fired, striking two of the three people inside the truck. One of them died at the hospital.

Police say they're looking into the possibility that the driver of the truck drove at one of the officers.

One officer suffered an injury to his head but it's not clear how he was injured.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on leave while police review what happened.
