Conference tournament predictions

The power conference tournaments take place this week, so it's time for me to make my conference tournament predictions.  Below are links to my brackets for each tournament.

My most upset-filled bracket is the ACC, where anyone can beat anyone. Boston College is on the bubble and will play their way in with four wins in four days to take the ACC crown. Virginia Tech is safe, but will leave no doubt by reaching the conference championship. Maryland probably needs to win the tournament to get in and won't be able to keep up the momentum after upsetting Duke in the quarterfinals.

The first major tournament starts Tuesday when UConn and DePaul kick off Big East play. But the talk of this tournament will be Villanova. The most dangerous 10 seed in Big East history will play five games in five days, bowing out to Pitt in the championship Saturday. St. John's will have some usual Madison Square Garden success, and Marquette will lock their bid by avoiding a first round upset.

Arizona stumbles into the Pac 10 tournament having lost two of four. Washington should have swept the Wildcats this year but lost by one in Tucson. The Huskies will win the rubber match to get off the bubble and earn the conference's automatic bid.

Kansas won the Big 12 after Texas collapsed at the end of the year.  The Longhorns will get a tough draw with Baylor in the quarterfinals and won't be able to handle the Bears for a third time. Meanwhile, Kansas will get revenge on Kansas State for the Manhattan whitewash, then hold off Texas A&M for yet another Big 12 title.

Last year's dramatic SEC championship left Mississippi State heartbroken, but they won't get that close this year. In fact, the SEC West will go 0-6 in the tournament, low lighted by Georgia's upset of Alabama that will leave the 'Tide on the outside looking in come Sunday. In an SEC East-dominated tournament, Kentucky will repeat as champions by beating Vanderbilt in the rubber match in another close game.

Ohio State will lose the tournament's #1 overall seed after being upset by Illinois, but will still get a top line. Michigan State is fighting for its life after starting the season #2 and won't do itself any favors by losing to Purdue. The Boilermakers have been surprisingly resilient after losing Robbie Hummel, and it will pay off with a league championship.
