FALCON, COLO. -- There was another meeting in Falcon School District 49 Thursday night as parents and employees try and save school bus service.

District 49 is facing a projected $4 million budget short fall. So instead of making more cuts in the classroom, some board members want to eliminate school bus service for all but special education students.

The school bus issue wasn't even on the agenda, but there was a portion of the meeting where anyone could voice their concerns to the board.

The board has already said the current busing set up will not survive past this school year. The only question left is what will it look like next school year.

One woman who spoke wanted to be sure that any cut in busing is equal.

"If you were by any chance to strike all busing service, I sure hope there will be no busing for football games, for basketball games or any of that," Ellen Duckers, who has grandchildren who attend D49, said. "If you are going to cut busing then it should all be cut, all the sports or the (expletive deleted) will hit the fan."

One man said he is going to mount a recall effort against board Vice President Chris Wright.

"I am asking Mr. Wright to hold you comments, derogatory comments to our transportation department because they work hard," concerned taxpayer Ben Gregory said. "They work hard for our taxpayer dollars, and as I stated to you in an e-mail last night, I will be pursuing a recall of your position on this board because I think it's due."

The next meeting on the matter is a public work session set for Wednesday.
