PUEBLO COUNTY, COLO. -- State troopers have identified the victim of the deadly crash on I-25 Wednesday night as 57-year-old William Grissom of Las Animas.

Investigators said Grissom was driving northbound just south of the El Paso County line when a trailer detached from a Chevy Silverado traveling southbound.

The trailer cut through the center median and struck the front of Grissom's vehicle.

He died at the scene.

Authorities said Grissom was wearing his seatbelt.

A Colorado Springs man was driving the Chevrolet.

Alcohol and drug use are not considered factors in the crash.

State troopers said northbound I-25 was closed for about five hours while law enforcement, emergency personnel, and hazardous-material specialists worked to investigate and clear the scene.  Traffic was routed away from the interstate at mile marker 110, using frontage and adjacent county roads.

The Colorado State Patrol continues to investigate.

Original story:

Northbound I-25 is shut down near Pueblo due to a multi-car crash that has killed one person.

A trailer got separated from the truck pulling it, and traveled into the Northbound lanes.

The trailer ran into a semi-truck carrying mail, killing the driver.

Two other cars were involved but no other injuries are reported.

Officials said the crash sparked a grass fire on the east side of I-25, but it was quickly extinguished.

Officials said traffic is at a standstill, but southbound I-25 remains open.
