AURORA, COLO. (AP) -- Police have responded to a shooting in Aurora, where several schools were locked down for about an hour as a precaution.
The shooting wasn't on school property, but Aurora Public Schools spokeswoman Paula Hans says police asked that the schools be closed down Monday afternoon to keep students safe. Ten buildings, including seven schools, were locked down.
Aurora police spokesman Bob Friel says the victim was in serious condition at a hospital. It was unclear whether the victim, who appeared to be in her teens, was a student at Aurora Central High School. The shooting happened across the street from the school.
Police were searching for a black or dark gray Neon sedan that was seen leaving the area.
