COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- On your mark,, get set, shop!

Black Friday shoppers stood in line overnight to be some of the first to cash in on some great holiday deals.

In Colorado Springs, the lines were long at retailers such as Best Buy, Target and Kohl's.

The Colorado Retail Council is predicting that holiday sales will be up 2 percent this year.

Council president Chris Howes says the day after Thanksgiving is traditionally the start of the holiday shopping season, but there is a big push this year to get shoppers in the stores early.

Howes says while Black Friday isn't always the highest grossing day, it sets the tone for the rest of the shopping season.

The Colorado Retail Council says shoppers were serious about bargain hunting and buying practical gifts last year.

This year, Howes says fun gifts are back - including jewelry and electronics.
