COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A police standoff that forced the evacuation of Timbers Apartments has ended without further incident.
Thomas VanFleet surrendered peacefully after initially refusing arrest and holding hostages in his barricaded apartment.
Police said they attempted to arrest VanFleet, who was wanted for a strong of Walgreens and other aggravated robberies, just after 7 a.m. Thursday.
VanFleet allegedly made threats to an officer, but police are not elaborating further. Police spent more than four hours Thursday morning negotiating with VanFleet to surrender peacefully.
Schools within a one mile radius were on lockdown during the standoff. Those schools included Tesla Middle School and the STAR Academy.
