COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Jonathan Patzel, 20, is charged with second degree assault on a peace officer after violent altercations with officers Tuesday morning

Just after 9 a.m. Tuesday officers with the Homeless Outreach Team approached Patzel to help him at the Cimarron Street exit of I-25. Patzel lied about his name, then pushed Officer Thomson, which caused him to hit his head on a metal beam and lose consciousness. Patzel continued to be violent, forcing Officer Iverson to tase him.

Both Patzel and Thomson were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Thomson is expected to make a full recovery after being treated with staples for cuts in his read.
