COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO -- Top officials with the Iraqi military visited Fort Carson Monday afternoon; they got a tour of the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery before coming to Colorado Springs.

The purpose of the visit was to have the chance to meet the 4th Infantry Division's commander staff. The Iraqi military officials told FOX21 News coming to America has always been a dream of theirs and they are happy to be in the United States.

Through a translator, Lt. Gen. Hassan explained the biggest challenge in Iraq is the terrorists and how it is good for them to see how the U.S. military works in the United States.

“There's a partnership between us and the 4th ID when we have deployment in our unit of operations,” said Hassan.

The purpose for the trip is to build relationships between the Iraqi Army and 4th Infantry Division leaders as the division prepares for a future deployment to Operation Iraqi Freedom.

"Exercise such as this and the relationships that we build is absolutely critical for our future as we handle those relationships,” said Gen. Tom Vandal, 3rd Infantry Division deputy commanding general.

During the visit the Iraqi generals also visited various facilities around Fort Carson. The Iraqi military officles also discussed how Iraq can learn from America’s example when it comes to caring for soldiers' families.
