SB I-25 now open after earlier closure

MONUMENT, COLO. -- Update 2:15 p.m.
Colorado Department of Transportation has reopened southbound Interstate 25 from Lincoln Avenue to Monument.
The chain law still in effect for commercial vehicles driving both directions on I-25.
Blowing winds are beginning to knock heavy snowfall from tress in the area.

Update at 12:45 p.m.
Colorado Department of Transportation has closed southbound Interstate 25 from Lincoln Avenue (mile marker 193) in Denver south to Monument Hill (mile marker 161).
Northbound lanes remain open with the chain law in effect for commercial vehicles. Northbound Monument Hill is icy with traffic moving at approximately 10 mph and traffic is backed up for more than 10 miles.

Update at noon
Colorado Department of Transportation has put the chain law into effect for commercial vehicles traveling north on Interstate 25 over Monument Hill.
Snow conditions are making it difficult to maneuver the 7000 elevation where the highway crests north of Colorado Springs.

Local traffic officials announced just after 11:15 a.m. Friday that traffic on Monument Hill north of Colorado Springs is completely stopped.
Due to the snow and road conditions, vehicles are unable to make it up the hill and all traffic heading northbound into Castle Rock and Denver is blocked.
