The current $252 million Powerball jackpot is the 11th largest on record, worth an estimated $121.7 in cash to anyone who might win the next drawing.
It is the biggest since Aug.19, 2009, when a nearly $260 million jackpot was won by a retired state government worker in South Carolina.
“Anytime the Powerball jackpot surpasses the $200 million mark we see big jump in excitement for the game and a spike in sales,” said Colorado Lottery acting director Tom Kitts.
Powerball sales in Colorado have totaled slightly more than $10 million since the current jackpot run began on March 17. Sales for the last drawing were $2.9 million alone.

Thirty-seven cents of every dollar spent on Powerball goes to support the Colorado Lottery’s proceeds partners: Great Outdoors Colorado, the Conservation Trust Fund and Colorado State Parks. Through those partners, the Lottery has provided funding for new trails, expanded parks, precious open space and wildlife protection. The Lottery has returned more than $2.2 billion to the state of Colorado since its founding in 1983.
