COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- High school students from Mitchell, Wasson, Palmer and Coronado will complete this weekend to collect as much food as possible for Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado.
It is a D-11 contest for the students who will gather at Coronado High School on Saturday, Feb. 13 for the event.
Four trucks will be on site (one for each respective school), and the truck with the most food wins. The prize? A concert put on by local radio station Magic 98.9.
During the holidays, there is a lot of focus on food donations, but the attention often shifts after the holidays. There is also a 46 percent increase in need across the nation. That is why the students have decided to come together for a good cause.
The public is invited to help with the donations. Pick your favorite school and add to their donations. The collection is at Coronado High School on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m
Each truck will have a school banner identifying it, so donors will know where to place the food to help their chosen school win.
The four high schools hope to continue this and start a tradition called "Harvest with a Heart."
