COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO -- Employees at a McDonald’s on north Academy Boulevard told Colorado Springs police they noticed a man and two children coming in Wednesday afternoon to play in the playground area.

They say they also noticed the dad, 28-year-old Joshua Alger, seemed drunk and then passed out while his kids were playing.

Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officers arrived and discovered Alger had an outstanding warrant. But police say when Alger's wife arrived to pick up the kids, that’s when Alger freaked out, yelling at his kids to "bite off" an officer’s face.

“It's really a unique circumstance, something that we never heard of before. But this whole incident was really bizarre,” said Lt. David Whitlock, CPSD.

At one point officers took Alger to the ground. That's when cops say he kicked an officer in the face. One of the officers tried to Tazer® Alger but it misfired.

A second officer was able to stun him and get him handcuffed. Police say he also had marijuane on him. Cops say the children ignored their dad's order to bite the officer and were taken home by their mother.

“Really the victims in this situation aren't so much the officers, but the children,” said Whitlock.
