TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- A Colorado fugitive accused of taking a newlywed couple hostage outside Topeka faces a Nov. 25 preliminary hearing in Kansas.

The Shawnee County District Court hearing will determine whether 23-year-old Jesse Dennis Dimmick of Aurora stands trial on eight charges -- including kidnapping and aggravated robbery. Dimmick also is wanted in Colorado in the September slaying of a 25-year-old man in Aurora, a Denver suburb.

Authorities say he fled Colorado and eventually crashed a stolen vehicle in the front yard of a home in Dover, Kan., about 15 miles west of Topeka.

Law enforcement officials say he took the newlywed couple inside hostage, but they escaped unharmed when he fell asleep. Officers stormed the home and shot Dimmick.

Dimmick's attorney did not return a telephone message Monday.
