Marshal is anti-cold weather

He just hates it!

I was not a fan of Monday's ridiculously cold weather, it was miserable. But, Marshal, he just downright hates the cold. Now the reasons are obvious: 1.) He is a short haired dog, 2.) He is small and has no meat on his bones, and 3.) He was not bred for cold weather (at least not his type).

It is just so funny, Marshal can not even bear weather in the 50's. Once he gets near the door, or we take him outside for a walk or to use the restroom... his whole body starts to shake violently. You can actually see the little muscles in his leg shake. What is even worse is during the winter, we have to keep our apartment comfortably heated, even when we are not at home, for his sake. Otherwise we will come home to an unhappy little friend who lost the little weight he carried shaking all day. I do think that is the reason he stays so skinny... imagine the workout you would get if you shook all winter long. Oh yeah, Marshal also despises the snow! He will run in it if absolutely necessary, but otherwise he stays away. If my husband or I come home with snow on our shoes, we do not get greeted at the door for fear he might step in a puddle of the cold stuff.

I have bought him multiple sweaters, a puffy winter jacket with fur on the collar, and his own soft blanket for his bed, but he still shakes all the time. We call him the "Arizona Dog" because I am sure he would be happier living there. After all, he does love to sunbath on the deck or on the carpet next to the window. The warmer the better! But I guess it is too bad for him because we are not moving to a warmer state anytime soon and we are not about to let him go... he is our best friend!

Anyone else experience this with their little, or big dogs?

Happy Holidays!
