A total of 15 acres burned on Thursday afternoon at a fire near the Big R store in Falcon on Highway 24, according to county officials.
The hay building, where the fire started, was considered a complete loss. The fire quickly spread to a nearby field and at least one home close to the store almost burned.
Fireighters plan to remain on scene throughout the night and into Friday morning to ensure the fire is extinguished. A front-end loader is being brought to the scene to move the hay to help with the containment efforts.
Three homes in the area were evacuated for a short time as a precaution, officials said.
