(AP) -- COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- A Fort Carson soldier says he's been unable to walk since he was injured when a train struck a veterans parade float in Texas.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reported Friday that 31-year-old Sgt. 1st Class Richard Sanchez Jr. expects to return to Colorado next week.

Sanchez says he still has feeling in the lower part of his legs and hopes he'll be able to walk again.

He plans to seek treatment at Craig Hospital in Englewood, which specializes in spinal cord injuries.

Sanchez is part of the Warrior Transition Battalion at the post outside Colorado Springs. He was shot in the elbow in Afghanistan.

Four people were killed and 15 were injured, including Sanchez, when the train struck the float in Midland, Texas, on Nov. 15.
