WETMORE, COLO. -- Wetmore Fire officials said a fire that destroyed 14 homes when it sparked Thursday near the small town east of Pueblo is losing steam.
Thursday night's snow and cold temperatures helped firefighters as they continued to dig containment lines around the fire. It is currently 65 percent contained.
Crews continue to mop up hotspots in the 2,100 acre zone where the fire burned and said even after the snow, residents may still see smoke from inside the fire perimeter. About 240 firefighters are still on scene, but many are being pulled off and redirected to other fires.
Evacuees in Wetmore and Pueblo County have been allowed to return, but evacuations remain in place in Greenwood Village.
All major roads have been reopened.
"We thank all cooperating agencies for their help. We've had a lot of success. The highways are open and power is being restored. No one has been injured," Deputy Incident Commander Shane Del Grosso said.
