COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A man who didn't return his friend's car after borrowing it is in the hospital in what turned out to be a crazy turn of events in Colorado Springs Tuesday morning.

The girl whose car was taken, her mother and another friend all began looking for the car Tuesday morning when the man didn't return it, according to Colorado Springs Police officers. While they were looking, the man, who was in the social security office parking lot on North Academy Boulevard, called one of their mutual friends for gas money.

The mutual friend then called the girl whose car was taken to tell her where the man was. The woman, the mom and the friend helping with the search all showed up in separate cars and blocked him in.

The window of the girl's car, which the man was driving, was smashed and the man was pulled through it, but he managed to run away. As the girl's mother was backing out, she hit her daughter, who was standing behind her mom's car.

The girl then got back into the car she was driving, along with another man, and chased the man who had taken her car. She lost control of the car she was driving and crashed at the Citadel Arms Apartments on Marion Drive. The car hit a utility pole, which fell on the car after it rolled onto its side. The utility pole had wires that were connected to two nearby buildings, and the wires were also pulled down.

The man who had taken the car to begin with was later arrested by an officer. He and the other man, the passenger in the car the girl was driving, were both hospitalized with minor injuries.

Officers said they are trying to find out if the man who took the car had any outstanding warrants.  So far no charges have been filed.
