COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- El Paso County Clerk and Recorder's Office officials are denying a claim by a woman conducting a partisan voter registration drive who said she was working for them.

video posted to YouTube Friday by a Safeway shopper in Colorado Springs shows a young lady outside the store registering voters. She asked the person who posted the video from her phone who she was voting for and admitted she was targeting Mitt Romney supporters in the voter registration process.

When asked by the person who posted the video who she works for, the woman said the El Paso County City Clerk.

Officials have denied the woman's claim.

"The statement made in this video is both unfortunate and inaccurate," Clerk and Recorder Wayne Williams said. "My office does not and will not engage in partisan voter registration. It is the duty of the Clerk’s office to ensure that elections are conducted in a fair and honest manner, this includes allowing any one to register to vote regardless of their political party affiliation."

Williams said all registration forms obtained by voter registration drives go through the county clerk's office, which may have been why the woman made the mistake.

Williams said his office has talked with the Romney campaign to request they clarify the information with the volunteers, and he said the campaign has ensured it won't happen again.

"We want to remind everyone who is legally eligible to register to vote by the Oct. 9 deadline," Williams said. "The best and easiest way to register is online at GoVoteColorado.com.  Registering online ensures your registration is accurate and received by the deadline."

The person who posted the video, whose YouTube username is "golddiggermom," denied the Clerk's office's request to remove the part about the woman incorrectly stating she works for them. The video had almost 130,000 views and more than 1,400 comments as of Monday morning.
