COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- An attempted traffic stop turned into a police chase on Platte Avenue in Colorado Springs late Tuesday night.

According to Colorado Springs Police officers, one of them spotted a stolen truck near Maizeland Road and North Circle Drive using a license plate reader and tried to pull it over after calling for backup. When officers turned their lights on, the driver of the pickup truck sped off.

The truck went west on East Platte Avenue toward downtown, and officers had to stop the chase after the truck got into an area of heavy traffic and pedestrians.

During the chase, the truck hit a van that had a family of three inside, but there were no injuries.

Officers continue to look for the stolen truck, which was last seen headed north on Union Boulevard from East Boulder Street. It is a 2002 Red Chevrolet Silverado pickup.
