TRINIDAD, COLO. (AP) -- Trinidad Mayor John Rino has resigned effective immediately over continuing political turmoil.
Mayor Pro-tem Frank Shew will take over as mayor until a new mayor is elected after Rino announced his decision on Monday.
According to the Trinidad Chronicle-News, the mayor's resignation comes on the heels of a recall petition being filed with the city last week seeking his ouster. Opponents have complained that city officials failed to show respect to citizens and blemished the city's reputation.
