EL PASO COUNTY, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police officers said a 6-year-old girl was hit by a car at the Summit of Pikes Peak Friday morning.

According to officers, the girl was flown to Memorial Hospital with non life-threatening injuries around 9 a.m.

Pikes Peak Highway was closed to the general public Friday morning because racers were practice for Sunday's Pikes Peak Hill Climb.

Officers did not say how or why the girl was at the top of the mountain, but the girl's father told officers the family was in the area on vacation.

A man in the car was taken to Penrose Hospital with back injuries.
