FLORISSANT, COLO. (AP) -- A man is facing a $300 fine after 60 baby birds were beaten with a pipe.

The Division of Wildlife says the man didn't want bird nests on his property. The Baby Cliff Swallows were found on the ground suffering from bone fractures and concussions. Six birds died.

According to KKTV-TV, the birds are protected under the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty act. Authorities said the person is not facing federal charges because he called the state to admit what he'd done.
