COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The Colorado Springs Fire Department will be awarded a $2 million staffing grant by the Department of Homeland Security, officials announced Friday.
The Staffing For Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant is awarded by the department of Homeland Security. Se. Mark Udall broke the news to Fire Chief Richard Brown Thursday.
“This is welcome news for the Colorado Springs Fire Department,” Brown said in a statement. “The SAFER grant will go a long way in helping us keep our front-line staffing levels up and continue to provide the best possible fire and emergency service to the citizens of Colorado Springs.”
SAFER was designed to help communities train more front-line firefighters and to help departments meet staffing requirements.
