PARADOX, COLO. (AP) -- Sheriff's officials say a new wildfire in northern Colorado is prompting evacuations.

Larimer County sheriff's officials say the fire was reported Monday afternoon and has spread to about 40 acres. Sheriff's officials say 13 homes are being evacuated. Earlier, they had alerted 66 homes and three businesses to prepare for possible evacuations.

A single engine air tanker and helicopter have been requested to fight the fire.

Meanwhile, firefighters in western Colorado are mopping up a wildfire that burned nearly 9 square miles of rugged terrain north of Paradox near the Utah border.

Crews are also battling a fire near Pagosa Springs that has scorched nearly 8 square miles.

That fire is about 30 percent contained. Crews say much of the risk associated with that blaze has been significantly reduced.
