DENVER (AP) -- Colorado law enforcement agencies are launching a crackdown on drunken driving starting Friday.

The Colorado State Patrol says the goal of the "100 Days of Heat" campaign is to reverse a trend of deadly crashes by alcohol- or drug-impaired drivers.

The State Patrol says that last year in Colorado, there were 185 traffic deaths related to alcohol. Of those, 67 were from alcohol-related crashes between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day.

The state had 150 deaths involving alcohol in 2010.

Dozens of Colorado law enforcement agencies plan to step up patrols over Memorial Day weekend to check for drunk drivers.
