COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. --
It's National Rebuilding Day and 250 Colorado Springs volunteers are getting down and dirty working non-stop and providing free repairs
for low-income homeowners.
"It's hard to make your pennies pinch to go for food or help with the surroundings," Amy Peterson, home being repaired said.
Rebuilding Together Colorado Springs, the City of Colorado Springs, and the Energy Resource Center are partnering together to help 12 homeowners who agreed to take out a $20,000-$28,000 loan and invest back into their property.
Plus, the loan is forgivable if the homeowners stay put for 10 years.
"I had siding on they're going to do stucco, all new windows, they're going to do the landscaping in the front, hot water heater, furnace," Sherise Peterson, home being repaired said.
Saturday they focused on the exterior of the homes specifically with landscaping painting and fencing.
Improving their quality of living and giving one mom and early Mother's Day gift.
"I don't think anybody deserves it more than my mom because she doesn't get child support and she's a single mom and it's been really hard in her case," Skylar Peterson, home being repaired said.
It's the biggest project Rebuilding Together Colorado Springs has ever taken on and at $250,000 paid for by donations and grants from the Home Depot and El Paso County.
