DENVER (AP) -- The Colorado Agricultural Statistics Service is forecasting a winter wheat harvest of 92.25 million bushels in the state this year.

That's 18 percent above last year's production of 78 million bushels. The 10-year average for Colorado winter wheat production is 68.2 million bushels.

The statistics service says farmers will be harvesting an estimated 2.25 million acres this summer, which would be about 250,000 more than a year ago.

Average yield is forecast at 41 bushels per acre. Colorado's record yield of 45 bushels per acre was set in 2010. The final yield will depend on moisture and temperatures in May and June.

Agriculture officials say the winter wheat crop was planted under mostly favorable conditions and has kept most of its potential after a dry, mild winter.
