COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- New information is released about last Thursday's deadly hit-and-run that killed 14-year-old Ricardo Figueroa in Colorado Springs.
David Henley Jr. was arrested Tuesday and is facing the charge of accidents involving death, a Class 3 Felony.
According to the 38-year-old's arrest affidavit the community was crucial in leading police to him.
Colorado Springs Police officers arrived on the scene May 3 and found multiple pieces of primer gray auto parts in the street, but could only narrow down a suspect vehicle to a 1985 to 1987 Chevrolet 1500 or 2500 truck or a 1987 to 1991 GMC truck.
A day after the crash police received a tip from Crime Stoppers. The tipster told officers the driver was Henley and said he drove a GMC pickup that is owned by Henley's father.
Officers looked up Henley in their database and found he lives a few blocks north of Circle Drive and Airport Road, where the crash happened.
Then three days after the hit-and-run officers received another anonymous call.
The caller told officers he spoke to a man named Dave who admitted to hitting a pedestrian and leaving the scene.
The caller said he spoke with the man at a house near Circle Drive and Venetucci Boulevard.
Officers tracked down the caller to obtain more information.
According to the tipster Henley approached him in a garage off South Circle Drive and told him he hit a pedestrian and left the scene because he didn't have insurance.
Henley also asked him if the coroner's van was at the scene and told him he was concerned that maybe he killed someone.
The tipster said he saw a primer gray GMC pickup with damage to the front left bumper.
Based on information officers received from the callers they issued an arrest warrant for Henley.
Henley later turned himself into police Tuesday, five days after the crash.
Henley has a lengthy court record with 35 prior charges, including 19 traffic and motor vehicle violations.
He appeared in court Thursday for two unrelated traffic charges.
His next court appearance relating to the hit-and-run will be May 15.
He is being held on a total of $40,000 bond for his three current charges.
