COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A 14-year-old boy who was hit by a car Thursday night died at the hospital.
According to Colorado Springs Police officers, a truck driver hit Ricardo "Ricky" Figueroa at the intersection of Circle Drive and Airport Road around 8:20 p.m., then drove away.
Officers said the truck is a 1985-1987 model Chevrolet pickup truck or a 1987-1991 GMC light-colored, two-door pickup truck with grey paneling on the side. It may also have a "lift kit" and damage to the front left side.
"The vehicle did stop for just a few moments, south of where the accident occurred on Circle Drive, and proceeded soubound and left the area," Larry Herbert, of the Colorado Springs Police Department said.
The driver could be facing vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a deadly accident and careless driving charges.
Figueroa died at Memorial Hospital shortly after 10 p.m. He was an eighth grader at Galileo School of Math and Science.
"It's hard to lose somebody that close, so we just want them to catch the person so we can at least feel some victory and get the driver behind bars," Esmeralda Lara, one of Figueroa's friends, said.
Officers did not release any more information and didn't say how Figueroa ended up in the road. They are asking anyone who has information about the crash to contact them at (719) 444-7000.
