Motorcycle rider dies after crashing into SUV

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The man who crashed into an SUV while on his motorcycle Wednesday afternoon in Colorado Springs died Thursday from his injuries.

The rider, 67-year-old Michael Cole from Colorado Springs, was going west on Garden of the Gods road when 66-year-old Barbara Lowry, the driver of the eastbound SUV, tried to turn left in front of him onto Forge Road. Cole hit the ride side of Lowry's Explorer and was taken to the hospital around 2:14 p.m.

Lowry was cited for the crash and will now be charged with careless driving involving death. By law, she will be served a summons to appear in court and released.

Colorado Springs Police officers said Cole was wearing proper protective gear at the time.

Alcohol, drugs and speed were not factors in the crash, according to officers. Cole is the sixth person to die in a crash in Colorado Springs this year.
