COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Several area law enforcement groups have teamed up to create a campaign that focuses on and recognizes kids in the community who make positive and healthy choices.
The collaborative community partnership celebrates and acknowledges youth in the community for the safe choices they make, rather than focusing the attention on the availability and use of drugs and alcohol.
The slogan for the Choose Healthy Options Over Substance Use (iCHOOSE) campaign is "Most Students Don't," referencing the fact that more than 90 percent of students in middle school and high school do not use marijuana, vicodin, oxycontin or ecstasy. About 60 percent of students do not use alcohol.
Officials hope the campaign will help students understand that the majority of their peers do not engage in substance abuse,
so it's okay for them to make good choices.
Officials will be issuing pledge cards for students to sign on Friday acknowledging their pledge to make safe, healthy and positive choices.
The collaborative partners and supporters include: The Colorado Springs Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration, El Paso & Teller Counties Alliance for Drug Endangered Children, Conspire! Drug & Alcohol Testing, Cedar Springs Hospital, HQ/Air Force Space Command-DDRP, Drug Court Magistrate Kirkman, Colorado Springs School District 11 and District Attorney Dan May.
